Obituary for John F. Chakany

John F. Chakany, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 10, 2018. John was born in Hungary in 1944. He earned his degree in engineering, a testament to his work ethic and intellect. In 1972, he immigrated to America where he pursued a mechanical engineering career in the steel industry. John was continuously promoted throughout his career, finally becoming a Project Manager in design/implementation of continuous casting machines around the world. John’s love for sports began at a young age. He played water polo for Ferencvárosi TC, a first league club team in Budapest, and continued playing recreationally for the prestigious NY Athletic Club.

John lived a long and beautiful life filled with his love of family, swimming, water polo, the beach, ice hockey (Go Pens!), food and drink, continuous steel casting, ABBA, and travel. John is loved dearly and will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Beloved husband to Silvia of 31 years. Devoted father to Peter (Tara) of Westfield, NJ, Jamie of New Albany, OH, and Andrea of Pittsburgh, PA. Cherished grandfather of Jack, Catherine, and Owen. Son of the late Maria (Papp) Csákány. Brother to Éva and Zsuzsanna (Misi). Uncle to Orsi and Maté and great-uncle to Orsi’s children. He is reunited with his most loyal companion, his dog, Toby.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the American Heart Association.
