Obituary for Rita M. Raymond

Age 62, of Marshall Township, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2017 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved wife of 25 years to Scott Raymond; and loving mother of Alec and Brandon. Loving sister to John (Kerry) Zimmerman, Frank (Cathy) Zimmerman, Edward (Corey) Zimmerman, Mary (Joe) Beaumier, and Julie (Mark) Zaeta. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Rita lived her life to the fullest, enjoying her family, entertaining friends, cooking, traveling, and reading. She earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Connecticut (philosophy) and Duquesne University (nursing) and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. Rita had a fulfilling career, beginning in nursing and psychology, continuing as a nursing professor at Duquesne University, and working the last 20 years as a Nurse Practitioner in Woman’s Health, mostly for Lifestages at Allegheny General Hospital. She volunteered extensively, was a featured speaker at many professional and civic events, participated on numerous boards, and was the consummate professional, respected and admired by her colleagues, patients, and students. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Sperling Funeral Home, 700 Blazier Drive, McCandless Township, PA 15090 on September 15 from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16 at Northmont Presbyterian Church 8169 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Pancreas Foundation.
